Step 1: Choose a Challenge

• Choose to participate in the (ongoing)Portfolio Challenge or (twelve weeks)Trader Challenge.

Step 2: Choose Your Syndicate

• Decide whether you will register as a team or as an individual.
• Teams must be made up of 2-5 players.

Step 3: Register

• Go to the registration page of the website to register yourself (or your team).
• Click on the Challenge you wish to participate in.
• Choose a team name (which will appear in rankings).
• Choose a user name and a password (they must be 5 – 10 characters long and can be made up of both letters and numbers - passwords are case sensitive) which you will use to log on to the website.
• Ensure that you record your chosen username and password as you will need them to login to the Challenge.
• Fill in the other required fields which include email address and contact details.
• If students wish to register, teachers can complete the registration process for each syndicate and pay in one single payment (see registration page for details) and should register using a team email address or an appointed student's email address.

Note: If your password is not working, or at any time you forget or lose your password, you can request a new one by visiting the Lost your Password? You will then be emailed a new random password that you can use.

Step 4: Pay Fees

• You will be required to pay the registration fee (see Portfolio Challenge fees or Trader Challenge fees) upon completion of the registration.
• Fees must be paid by online credit card payment (Visa or Mastercard accepted).

Step 5: Login

• Once payment is completed, you will become automatically activated in the Challenge.
• You can now login to the Challenge by visiting the home page of the website and entering your username and password.

Step 6: Build your portfolio

• Once your Challenge is open (see Trader Challenge and Portfolio Challenge dates section) you can login and build your initial portfolio of shares (subject to the criteria outlined in the Trader Challenge and Portfolio Challenge trading sections and the Challenge Rules).
• Once you have satisfied the initial portfolio rules and chosen your initial portfolio of shares, you should submit the order. You will now have purchased an initial portfolio of shares.

Step 7: Continue Trading

• You can now continue trading (subject to the criteria outlined in the Trader Challenge and Portfolio Challenge trading section and the Challenge Rules).
• To buy and sell stocks:
• Login.
• Go to the ‘Your Portfolio' page (this shows your current shares).
• To sell, select an individual or multiple stocks for sale and click ‘Select Stocks'.
• To buy, click on the buy stocks link, select an individual or multiple stocks for purchase and click ‘Select stocks'.
• You will be taken to a new page, enter in the number of stocks you wish to buy or sell.
• Click ‘Update Prices' to see the transaction cost.
• Click ‘Place sell order' or ‘Place purchase order' to ready your stocks for sale (your orders will not yet be processed.
• View your orders on the ‘Orders' page.
• Click ‘Commit Orders' to process the trade.
• Remember that a ‘virtual' brokerage fee will be charged for each trade.

Step 8: Research

• You can research online and offline about NZX listed companies and shares. There are a number of sources of information that will aid in your trading decisions. A few places that are good starting points are:
• The NZX Website (including the Market Announcements and Education sections)
• Stuff Business
• NZ Herald Business
• Sharechat
• Listed company websites
• Business pages of local newspapers

Note: Automatic Logoff

• If you have logged on to the Challenge website and stay inactive for 20 or more minutes, you will automatically be logged off and asked to login on again. This may result in a loss of data if a trade or change to your profile etc. has not been completed.
